In an effort to find an economical means of purifying salt water, a joint U.S.-Japanese military command has been set up on an isolated Japanese island where an unusual saltwater lake is situated. However, their purifying experiments arouse the prehistoric monster Obaki from hibernation at the lake's bottom.

Shipwreck survivors are found on Beiru Island, which was previously used for atomic tests. The interior is amazingly free of radiation effects, and they believe that they were protected by a special juice that was given to them by the island's residents.
